I am from Vancouver. British Columbia has not done this. Neither has Ontario, Quebec, or Ottawa. Alberta is the only Canadian jurisdiction with a medical restriction on puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones for minors.
Alberta’s official page: as of 7 January 2026, regulated health professionals are prohibited from prescribing hormone therapy to minors for gender dysphoria or gender incongruence, with exceptions in Ministerial Order 31/2025:
1. Already commenced. 2. Ages 16 and 17, with parental or guardian and physician and psychologist approval. 3. Disorders of sex development.
So: new starts under 16 are banned. Sixteen- and seventeen-year-olds are not under a flat ban. Alberta did not ban all medical interventions under 18. Surgery on minors has been prohibited since December 2024.
A court injunction briefly stopped the hormone rules. Alberta used the notwithstanding clause (Bill 9, Royal Assent 11 December 2025). The law is in force. Egale and Skipping Stone are still in court. That is status, not the ban being lifted. Saskatchewan’s school pronoun law is.
