The Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals has thrown out Samuel Ward Jr.'s voluntary manslaughter conviction for shooting Paris Lee, a trans-identified male. At prosecutors' request, the Shelby County trial judge barred any mention that Lee was male, ordered everyone to call him 'Ms. Lee,' and redacted his autopsy. The appeals court said that misled the jury and ordered a new trial.

When federal Medicaid money for these procedures ends October 13, Oregon will pay for about 600 minors with state-only funds. At the same time, regulators have delayed the insurer compliance exams required by HB 2002, the state's 2023 coverage mandate, saying they fear the Trump administration would use the data.

Kelly Day, a 32-year-old trans-identified male, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Larry Young, 50, on Chicago’s South Side. Prosecutors say Day followed Young across the street to a gas station and stabbed him 13 times in the head, neck and shoulders, with Day’s 7-year-old stepson there to see it. The blade tip broke off in Young’s skull. A judge has ordered Day held until trial. The Tribune turned to an activist who blamed the “political climate.”

York University in Toronto is hiring a Canada Research Chair in Artificial Intelligence and the Arts — and qualified men are barred from applying because of their sex. The job is open only to applicants who tick a box saying they identify as women or “gender non-conforming,” which the posting says includes trans-identified males. So a man can’t apply as a man, but a man who ticks the identity box can. It’s at least the third AI research chair York has restricted this way, and the public is paying for it.

A Washington high school girl and her mother have asked the U.S. Supreme Court to stop the state’s rules that put males in girls’ wrestling. Court filings say she was sexually assaulted by the male she was assigned to wrestle. Justice Kagan has given Washington until October 13 to respond.

Federal prosecutors say James Cody Bryant, 30, of Bellingham spent months on Discord helping the Tumbler Ridge shooter plan the February massacre. He allegedly gave tactical advice, sent money, agreed to rebroadcast a livestream, and promised not to “snitch.” Photos in the filing show the shooter’s guns decorated in trans-flag colors. Both are males who identify as female.
