Chile’s medical badge is Mixed. The health ministry wrote a circular. A bill would go further. Neither is a nationwide statute ban.
Circular B/N° 7 of 14 June 2024 — Recomendaciones para el abordaje de la terapia hormonal género afirmativa en adolescentes — told the public and private network to defer new starts of gonadotropin blockers (puberty blockers) and opposite-sex hormones until MINSAL publishes technical guidelines, case by case and under the best-interests rule in Ley 21.120. Treatments already underway were not stopped by that circular.
Boletín 17798-11 would prohibit surgical and hormonal interventions “for the change of sex” under 18, including puberty blockers and opposite-sex hormones. It has not been enacted.
Schools. Ley 20.418, on the official BCN Ley Chile text, requires State-recognised secondary schools to include a sexuality-education programme.
