Schools action is the story.
February 2024 — gender-ideology purge. Education Minister José Mauricio Pineda said on 27 February 2024, as minister, that every trace of “ideología de género” had been removed from public schools. The ministry account said those contents had been expelled from guides, books, and other materials left by earlier governments. The next day he circulated a memo, reported as “Disposiciones sobre ideología de género,” telling national, staff, and departmental directors that the exclusion had stood since the 2022 school year and that materials, programmes, textbooks, sites, and training were to stay clear of it — with sanctions, including possible dismissal, for breach. October 2025 — Memorándum N.º 22-2025. Ministra Karla Trigueros issued the memo on 2 October 2025 prohibiting so-called “lenguaje inclusivo” in public schools and MINEDUCYT offices — forms such as amigue, compañere, niñe, alumn@, jóvenxs. She announced the order as minister. President Bukele confirmed it the same week: from that day the so-called inclusive language was prohibited in the country’s public schools.
