A Jogorku Kenesh bill had its first reading on 4 June 2026. It is not yet law.
The draft would amend the Family Code, the civil-status law, and the law on protecting citizens’ health. It would forbid medical interventions — including hormone therapy and surgery — aimed at changing sex, with an exception for treating congenital anomalies of sex development (DSD) after a medical-commission conclusion and a court ruling. It would also stop sex-marker changes on civil-status records except that DSD track.
Schools. Law 176 of 9 August 2023 already restricts promoting non-traditional sexual relations to children.
